Mindy Nguyen, Nikita Rodrigues, and Kaleigh Wyrick
Our 2008 scholarship winners all happen to attend The Woodlands High School. Each is an exemplary scholar, nationally recognized for academic achievement, and ranked near the top of her graduating class. All three have demonstrated genuine commitment to serving their community.
Mindy Nguyen
Mindy won a state medal in solo and ensemble violin competition, played on the basketball team, and earned a 2nd-degree black belt in taekwondo. For four years she has been Junior Volunteer Officer of the Year at Memorial Hermann Hospital, as well as a Police Activities Junior Leader. She has also done volunteer work for Star of Hope, a soup kitchen, Habitat for Humanity, the Rec Center’s Gorilla Hole, and The Forum. Next year she will enroll in the pre-med program at Colorado College. She ultimately hopes to become a neurosurgeon.
Nikita Rodrigues
Nikita has been President of the Anchor Club and a member of the Principal’s Leadership Council. She played on the volleyball team for three years, and belongs to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She volunteers weekly with mentally disabled students and dementia patients, as well as Star of Hope, Tamina Community Center, and through her church. Nikita will attend Texas A&M, where she plans to major in Biology. She then hopes to go to medical school, and later to perform social work in India and Africa.
Kaleigh Wyrick
Kaleigh is a member Mu Alpha Theta. She directed three food drives for the Montgomery County Food Bank and Interfaith Food Pantry, and has volunteered at the End Hunger Center in Houston, The Forum, and through church missions. Next Fall Kaleigh will attend Abilene Christian University, majoring in Psychology and Spanish. She is considering going on to do translation work for mission trips and businesses in Spanish-speaking countries.

Each year, the Alden Bridge Village Association, on behalf of the residents of Alden Bridge, raises funds and awards several scholarships to outstanding local high school students planning to pursue higher education. This scholarship is intended to recognize and encourage a spirit of community involvement and citizenship among high school students residing in the Village of Alden Bridge.
All of the scholarship funds come from the Alden Bridge Scholarship Foundation. Donations to the foundation are tax deductable. Information on donations can be obtained by writng scholarships@aldenbridge.org.
In addition Alden Bridge logo cap and shirt sales, ABVA volunteers at the villages flea market, and volunteer efforts at community events all contribute to the scholarship fund. The Village Association members are proud that their efforts result in an increased scholarship opportunity for children of Alden Bridge residents.
No assessment money is used for scholarships.

(Scholarship Winners Holly Harper, Matt Lambert, and Jenna Ponzi)
Holly Harper
Holly is a senior at The Academy of Science & Technology at Oak Ridge High School who plans on attending Texas A&M University. She will major in Biological Sciences and intends to continue on to medical school. She is the Varsity Captain of Cheerleading and the President of Interact. She has worked with youth in several capacities from tutoring to dance and gymnastics. Holly has been a Miss Teen Texas finalist twice. She has done an 80 hour internship with orthopedic surgeons at Woodlands Sports Medicine. Her community service ranges from entertaining at nursing homes, visits to Texas Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House, and the Alden Bridge Spring Festival. Her counselor was impressed by her positive attitude about our society as a whole and the desire to continue this by action and not just words. Holly is the sister of Amy Harper a 2004 Alden Bridge Scholarship recipient.
Matthew Lambert
Matt is a senior at The Academy of Science & Technology at Oak Ridge High School who plans on attending Washington University in St. Louis. He will major in Biological Engineering and intends to continue on to medical school. He has been on the Oak Ridge High School football team for four years. He has worked with the Leo club, the community service organization of the Lions Club. Matthew has been involved in Scuba diving, power lifting, and has been the Academic MVP in football. He was on the Texas High School Coaches Association All-State Elite Football Team. His counselor wrote that his strongest character strength may be loyalty to friends and his commitments, tempered with reason and open-mindedness. He is a meticulous, motivated, and responsible young man.
Jenna Ponzi
Jenna is a senior at The Woodlands High School who plans on attending the University of Texas. She will major in Business Science with a minor in Italian and hopes to continue on to medical school. She is the captain of her tennis team playing tennis for four years of high school including two years of varsity tennis, and an Academic Letterman. She also has been very involved in Interact. She is currently working at The Woodlands Athletic Club. Her community service includes many hours with Interact projects, work for Habitat for Humanity, tutoring, and work at her church. Jenna according to her teachers, peers, and administration is the “Best of the Best.” She has been described as an incredible young woman and a role model to the youth of the community. |

Ryan Mulcahy
Ryan is a senior at The Woodlands High School who plans on attending the University of Texas in Austin. He will major in Biology or Biochemistry and intends to continue on to medical school. He has played several sports and been a member of Interact at The Woodlands High School. He has worked with youth in several capacities. Ryan has been an Academic Letterman for all four years of high school. Ryan is currently working part time at Pappadeaux restaurant. His counselor has described him as genuine with a tremendous depth of character and a strong example of moral integrity to his peers.
Shaina Tey
Shaina is a senior at The Woodlands High School who will attend Vanderbilt University. She will major in public policy and intends to go to law school. She has been active in high school playing field hockey, involvement with student council, literary club, and key club projects. She’s worked as an ice skating teaching assistant, and she’s done childcare for her church. Her counselor called her a unique and valuable woman, a ‘gem’.
Aaron Wechter
Aaron is a senior at The Woodlands High School who plans on attending Texas A&M in the fall. He will major in Business with a strong concentration in the sciences. Aaron’s high school career included the National Honor Society, The Woodlands High School theater department, and Xtreme Soccer Club. Aaron lives in the neighborhood of Spring Hill in Alden Bridge and values his neighborhood community. He is currently working at Abercrombie & Fitch. His counselor described him as a natural born leader who is caring and compassionate. |
